The Holiday Spirit

DECEMBER 6, 2019

Parlin School sixth graders received their own miracle yesterday when a generous donor completely funded a field trip to see “Miracle on 34th Street” at the Greater Boston Stage Company in Stoneham.

Dr. Joseph Spinazzola, the executive director of the Foundation Trust, paid for the transportation to, and tickets for, a matinee showing of the holiday classic on Thursday, December 5.

“It was an incredibly kind gesture by Mr. Spinazzola and we can’t thank him and his organization enough,” said Principal John Obremski. “It was a magical day for our students and an ideal way to begin the holiday season.”

The Foundation Trust is a private philanthropic foundation serving Greater Boston. Its mission is to support the ongoing work of small to medium-sized nonprofit organizations that provide vital services to under-resourced populations that larger charitable foundations may overlook.

Dr. Joseph Spinazzola is an internationally-recognized expert in the area of traumatic stress. A licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Spinazzola is managing director of the Complex Trauma Institute.

The Greater Boston Stage Company production is adapted by Mountain Community Theater from the novel by Valentine Davies, and based upon the Twentieth Century Fox motion picture Miracle on 34th Street. The story begins when Kris Kringle agrees to serve as a last-minute replacement for Santa in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, he is so convincing that he is offered a job as the Santa for Macy's department store. He claims to be the real Santa Claus, but can he convince the doubters, including a little girl longing to find something to believe in?
